What Martial Arts is Right for You?
Many parents and adults are frozen with questions before they begin their martial arts journey. With so many styles of martial arts to choose from, how do you know which one of is the right fit for you? And considering there are several hundred styles of known martial arts around the world, is there one that is particularly better than the other? How do you know if you have picked the right one once you begin training?
Many styles teach punches, kicks and self-defense. At Seigler’s Karate Center, we teach the style of Kempo which is a blend of Korean, Japanese, and American martial arts. Even though our art is rich with history and heritage, the team at SKC feels that so many people are focused on which style to choose from, that they often miss the most important point of the selection process: the quality of the instruction.
When looking for a quality martial arts program, you should look for one that teaches practical self-defense along with martial arts character qualities such as confidence, discipline, focus and respect. Without these qualities being enforced, students are simply becoming lean, mean fighting machines.
Additionally, you will want to look for a martial arts school that has a focus on constant and never ending improvement. At SKC, our team members go through regular leadership and instructor training concepts designed to help instructors teach the students at a high quality level.
Finally, look for a school and instructor that offers a comfortable learning environment for you or your family. Instructors that do not make a personal connection with the students are often more difficult to learn from. Make sure your child and you are able to meet with an instructor before making a final decision on where to begin your journey.
